In general use, the standard choice is plastic or metal standard cable glands, or threaded connectors with anti-electromagnetic interference design or used in explosion-proof areas. For applications with extreme loads, it is recommended to choose cable glands with anti-bending protection and a clamp.
1. The selection of the construction type of the cable gland should be based on the insulation type of the connecting cable, the installation environment, and the operating conditions, so as to meet the required reliability and economy of the project, and the following requirements:
The gland of underwater cables should be able to maintain the longitudinal continuous steel armor and have sufficient mechanical strength. So, flexible connections should be used;
For high-current joints that need to limit temperature rise, construction types that can improve thermal performance such as low thermal resistance materials should be used.
2. The insulation characteristics of cable gland should meet the following requirements:
The rated voltage of the connector and its insulation level shall not be lower than the rated voltage of the connected cable and its required insulation level;
The withstand voltage on both sides of the insulation ring of the insulation gland shall not be less than twice the insulation level of the connected cable sheath.
3. The arrangement of cable terminals and glands should meet the spacing required for installation and maintenance, and the configuration requirements of the expansion glands for the allowable bending radius of the cable, as well as the following requirements:
The structure of the terminal bracket should facilitate the installation of cables and components; when the working current is greater than 1500A, the bracket structure should have additional heating measures such as preventing the closure of the transverse magnetic circuit;
Areas adjacent to electrified traffic lines that have corrosive effects on the cable metal sheath. The setting of joints should be convenient for monitoring and maintenance.
