Cable glands are for cables with connectors while the cable gland waterproof is generally cable glands for unarmoured cable. For waterproof glands, countless experiments to carry out the final quality verification should be done before mass production in order to ensure the better quality of products. Therefore, those products with a better waterproof grade on the current market actually have already been tried many times in the beginning and such experiments are generally carried out by the suppliers and buyers. The advantage of that is the results of the experiment will be more persuasive. The waterproof gland should be tested to abide by the following two principles:
Any cable gland material or technique used in the test should be the same as the normal products. Therefore, the products used in the waterproof-test must be those produced under the normal production conditions, otherwise, it can easily cause the inaccuracy of the result if choosing those high-grade materials or especially processing the process during the production on purpose.
The purpose of the test is to enable the products to meet the highest requirements, or to make the products at a specific level to achieve that level or even higher than their own level. Therefore, during the test, like IP68 waterproof joints may be placed under 10 meters of water and work for two weeks to ensure that the product won't seep into the water. For another example, put the joint at a depth of 100 meters under the water to do a destructive test lasting for 12 hours to ensure the performance of the waterproof gland connector.
Different manufacturers are using different ways and in different depths of water to do the waterproof gland test. In order to make the product suitable for its own grade, the test should not only be standardized but also more stringent so as to ensure the experiment results.
